Vic Premier defends 18 as legal drinking age

In the wake of a smash in the Melbourne suburb of Clayton, involving eight people in a Mitsubishi Lancer coupe, Victorian premier John Brumby defended the current drinking age.

A caller on ABC radio asked Mr Brumby if he thought the legal age for drinking alcohol should be raised to 21, and, if not, why not.

The Premier seemed to struggle with his answer, defending the responsible use of alcohol but really not dealing the issue of irresponsible use, especially by younger drivers. What civil libertarians give, let no-one try to take away.
