this morning.

As Peter Costello asserts in his column today, and as Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull agrees, the Rudd Government is playing politics with the CPRS legislation. However, the Opposition has indicated that it will comply with Labor’s timetable and will supply a list of amendments in time for the October sitting of Parliament.

The Opposition’s new emissions trading spokesman, Ian Macfarlane said, “We want to get these amendments put in place … If the Government refuses to accept any of the amendments and we are forced to vote against this legislation then that will be a bad outcome.”

Mr Macfarlane seems to be quite aware of the implications of the the Rudd Government’s proposed CPRS for Australian business, the economy and jobs. It will be interesting to see how the Coalition thinks it can neutralise these outcomes through amendments to the legislation.
