ABC fosters another climate farce

Mark Henderson

The ABC is swallowing the latest smoke and mirrors tricks on global warming – carbon “intensity”.

Correspondent Michael Edwards reported from New Delhi this morning on the news that India “would commit to (carbon dioxide) cuts regardless of the outcome at the climate summit in Copenhagen next week”.

This follows earlier ABC reports that China would also commit to reducing its carbon “intensity”.

Notice how the ABC reports these moves as “cuts”.

Neither India nor China has agreed to cut its CO2 emissions.

They have come up with a new trick – talk about carbon intensity which is evidently a measure of CO2 output per unit of economic growth.

So what will actually happen is that China and India will continue to increase their CO2 emissions.

And because their populations are so much bigger than Australia, they will increase CO2 output at a much greater rate than anything Australia can reduce through five per cent cuts.

So what is the point of Rudd, Wong and Co trying to force a massive new tax on Australians to produce a small reduction in CO2 which will quickly be obliterated by the increased output from China and India?

The whole thing is a joke.
