Labor and the Coalition unlikely to meet with Monckton

The Rudd Government and the Coalition are unlikely to meet with Lord Christopher Monckton during his upcoming tour of Australia, the director of the Institute for Private Enterprise Des Moore writes today in a report for Quadrant Online.

“The reason is that neither major party wants to be known to meet with an expert who is able to rebut, point by point, the claims that government action is needed and to explain that the correct policy response is to have the courage to do nothing because ‘global warming’ is a non-problem,” Mr Moore says.

“Despite the now enormous body of evidence that no scientific consensus exists on the supposed threat of dangerous warming, almost all major political parties around the world have locked themselves into accepting the consensus –and in many cases defending past statements to that effect.”

Des Moore also says the media, with one or two exceptions, have locked themselves into acceptance of the view that governments have a responsibility to do something to “save the planet”, but have done so without undertaking any thorough analysis of the basis of the alleged consensus.

In the QO article, Des Moore also reveals that Rupert Murdoch has indicated his global warming scepticism.

“The Australian has performed best in giving space to sceptics and dissenters but has stuck to the save the planet line in its editorials, some say because Murdoch said so publicly. Yet in a personal communication with Murdoch he indicated his scepticism to me. Last Friday’s editorial moved in the right direction when it called on politicians to question the science used by the IPCC but it has yet to endorse the call for an independent inquiry by a number of Australian scientists,” Moore said.

  1. Russ Walsh says:

Climategate real success is that it has exposed politicians, political parties, and governments for precisely what they are – the problem in your day. These people are so far out out touch with the real world it is painful. They had an agenda. The worked a fast one. They committed fraud. They got caught, but are refusing to admit guilt and are carrying on as if nothing had been exposed. These folks remind me of the Japanese soldiers holed up on south pacific islands for years, still clininging to the idea that WW2 was still on. Climategate has to be the best lesson ever for all of us. It has exposed our leader elites for what they are.

  2. Excellent piece. I hope our out-of-touch politicians are reading. We need to stop censoring and/or ignoring manmade global warming questioners.
