Bolt condemns media coverage of Monckton

Andrew Bolt.

Herald Sun columnist Andrew Bolt, on ABC1’s Insiders today, condemned the treatment Lord Christopher Monckton has received from some sections of the media.

Insiders’ presenter Barrie Cassidy raised the issue, pointing to the depiction of Monckton in the Melbourne Age.

During the week, the newspaper ran an image of Christopher Monckton, emphasising his eyes which are affected by Graves’ disease, a condition that can cause the eyes to swell and bulge.

Cassidy referred to Monckton as an “extremist”.

“When people are talking about Lord Monckton being an extremist, they’re relying on reports in the newspapers like that, that kind of thing that you’ve just shown where you would pillory a guy for his appearance in order disparage him.

“That’s foul at any time. But the fact is, this guy’s got Graves’ disease which explains the eyes. They go for his eyes to make him look crazy. I think that’s just so disgusting,” Bolt said.

“But he did talk about once the Berlin Wall came down then the communists started this new world order and, through climate change …,” Cassidy said.

“What he did was confirm, point out, which is black and white in the draft agenda for Copenhagen—it was taken out of the final bit—draft agenda for Copenhagen, a plan to get all countries to send billions—seven billion in our case—to the UN to give them a sort of supranational kind of body that will tell you what to do with your economy.

“Now that is a form of world government, even if you do not like the term,” Bolt said.

At Bethel University last October, Lord Monckton said this:

The communists who piled out of the Berlin Wall and into the environmental movement and took over Greenpeace so that my friends who founded it left within a year because they captured it, now the apotheosis is at hand. They are about to impose a communist world government on the world.

Barry Cassidy and other journalists and commentators are in denial about the connection between communism and the environmental movement. There is considerable evidence on the record pointing to the “greening of the reds”.

Andrew Bolt said the strategy of The Age was “to pick on the guy’s eyes and then call Tony Abbott the ‘mad monk’”.

It was interesting that no other panel member saw anything wrong with that description of Tony Abbott. Yet just a couple of years ago, Barrie Cassidy pulled up Piers Akerman when the Daily Telegraph columnist referred to Rudd as “pixie”.

As Bolt says in the exchange, the media treatment of Lord Monckton is all about double standards. For example, where has there been criticism on the ABC, he asks, for Al Gore’s egregious errors in An Inconvenient Truth?

Graves disease is nasty and I feel sorry for Monckton. But are you aware of some of the other symptoms for graves disease? A hyperactive mind, paranoia, mental instability, the craving of attention. No one voted for him in the UK, and I can see why.

  2. Gerard Hennicke says:

“Andrew Bolt said the strategy of The Age was “to pick on the guy’s eyes and then call Tony Abbott the ‘mad monk’”.” Didn’t the Herald Sun call Tony “the Mad Monk” as well? What a hypocrite!

  3. Penniless Taxpayer of Brisbane says:

I gave up watching Comrade Cassidy and his fellow leftist radicals aeons ago. I do not know of many others that bother watching. The MSM and particularly the lefties are becoming increasingly irrelevant. i think the public (or sections of it) are tiring of the shrill sensationalistic self aggrandizement poor excuse of a MSM that Australians suffer on a daily basis. Real journalistic integrity and investigation left the stage long ago…only very few remain.
    Look elsewhere for real information…

Despite several approaches , our local paper ( Timaru Herald ) is most reluctant to accept material on the falacy of global warming ! WHY??

  5. Bush bunny says:

The ABC responded on Media Watch last week. One of the items mentioned was that Lord Monckton said that ‘…Dr Patchauri and Sir John Houghton, were under investigation for not declaring correct income received as Trustees and could face criminal charges by the Charities Commission in UK as Trustees of TERI Europe..”

The response from Sir John was “I have never been or am a Trustee of
TERI Europe…” Well I suspect Sir John is a technophobe, because I checked this up… I Googled TERI Europe, and on their index punched in ‘Trustees’ and guess what? Sir John was heading the list of Trustees.

I’m sure most journalists like Carlton are ignorant or uninformed about
science substantiating climate change ETS solutions based on corrupted data substantiating AGW. However, they should investigate who is driving this belief.

How about U Tube ‘The Great Global Warming Swindle’ for starters and
learn why the founder of Greenpeace resigned from the organization.

Then http://www.cecaust.com.au “Goldman Sachs’ Turnbull dances to British
carbon trading tune” dated 28th October 2009. Before the Copenhagen
    farce.

If you have invested in Carbon Credit Trading Investments, as I have heard
Mr Turnbull has, ‘why’ would you want your countries ETS be endorsed?

Because you and others will lose millions possible billions of dollars
collectively. No ETS not CCT investments to sell? Simple as that!

  7. sad truth is that everyone does that in the media to some degree
“foul play” or not that’s the nature of the beast i recon.
Good of andrew bolt to say how bad pic was tho

All I want to know is when the ABC is going to have a balance in their programs.Once again two left leaning female journos and the ever righteous – I mean to the leftist Barry Cassidy-Its just poor journalism by the ABC

  9. Atheistno1 says:

Andrew Bolt has shown his maturity with this story & I couldn’t agree more. It is not always the fact that playing the person is wrong because in many cases it is the person that is wrong but it is a fact that the banks & high financiers have played the public in order to achieve the results they have. Financial suppression has long been the main method of keeping population under the thumb & when mixed with another ‘excuse’ has a debilitating effect that sends many into an sense of disarray. Confusion is the method of keeping the public in it’s place whilst the rich get richer.

  10. Harry Fritz-Gerald Beahrends says:

I can only agree that the left was instrumental in establishing the Green Parties of this world.
Berlin University Prof. Dr. Bernd Rabehl, closest associate of Rudi Dutschke (leader and spokesman of the left-wing German student-movement of the 1960s) is regarded by his followers and critics alike as the “most important theoretician of the 1968 student movement in Germany, admitted in an interview that their movement was involved in the creation of the Green Party of Germany. See his interview hereto:
    http://de-construct.net/?p=5891

Dr. Herbert Marcuse and the Frankfurter School (a Communist pre-dominantly German-Jewish Think-Tank) supported the Green Party:

  11. David Hughes-Jones says:

Andrew Bolt is completely accurate. I watched the Insiders program and I was disgusted at the way the two females journalists kept interrupting Andrew when he attempted to make a response to statements made by them and Barry Cassidy. In these programs the conservative is always outnumbered by left-wing sympathisers camouflaged as “unbiased”. What a hoot!. They are so obvious.

I thought Cassidy’s role was not only as introducer but also as moderator but this has never been evident in any of his shows – he behaves like all the other A.B.C. people – Kerry O;Brian, Tony Jones etc – biased in favour of the Government line and prejudiced against any or all conservative views. I just wonder why any of the Opposition including Tony Abott bother to attend these sort of programs when all that happens is that they are subjected to attempts to sabotage them and their views .

Cassidy, and the others should be sacked.

  12. You make an excellent point that although Al Gore has been proven wrong 9 times in court the media still treat him with such reverence and as though he is some great oracle of truth.

  13. Does Lord Monckton have Graves disease? The SMH reports that he “has also manufactured a cure to a long-term illness that attacked his endocrine system and patented the cure in conjunction with a British surgeon. Though stressing it was in its early stages, he said the drug had had positive results treating HIV and multiple sclerosis. ”It also has been used to cure cases of colds, flu,” he said.” Or was that a different disease?

  14. Bush bunny says:

In the Weekend Sydney Morning Herald there were two articles on Lord
Monckton. One or a second one as it happens by Miranda Devine, and
an absolute libelous one by Mike Carlton. Miranda reflected what a lot
    of people are now thinking.

Carlton disputes several points and character assassinated Lord Monckton. It was pointlessly spiteful, ignorant and down right wrong. So I assume he got it from those internet blogs, like ohcrikey, etc. Or
information from, probably Andy Pitman. Who is in a rather embarrassing
situation too with this climate gate swindle.

Page 14 with a rude cartoon of Lord Monckton with a Pinoccio long nose.

    1. The UN’s Climate Change fraud to cover for a plot to bring about a
    world government.
(It’s true and copies of the former draft treaty are available! Check the
Australian Green’s site E5 Global Governance and see what they
    have to say too).

    2. Polar bear increases – Yes they are increasing.

    3. Monckton is a Mathematician. Boloney Carlton says. He’s not!
Too silly – mathematicians are people who can do calculus and
    formulae.
An essential if you want to proceed with any kind of science degree
but not impossible for ones who also do a BA. I had to drop Astronomy
because I couldn’t work out the science calculator.

    4. Monckton was a science adviser to Margaret Thatcher? I know he
was an adviser but for what? Where did he get this from?

    5. Monckton helped end the Falklands War? Who said. I don’t think he
was in the armed forces, only 30 years at the time, and poisoning
the Argentinians water? (Probably said in jest perhaps?)

    6. Monckton is a member of the House of Lords? When did he
say this… one had the cheek to say if he isn’t a member of the house
of Lords, why call himself one. What ignorance, he’s the 3rd Viscount
of Blenchley. He stood for a seat and like 31 others didn’t get one vote.

    7. Lord Monckton never claimed to be a Nobel Prize laureate. He joked
that a paper he sent pointing out errors to the UN IPCC was adopted
and said well I was part of that report too that was adopted for the report
they were awarded the nobel prize for with Al Gore.

Similar blogs generated by AGW’ers have tried in similar ways to discredit
Lord Monckton. Attacking the man, not his debate. And they have all
lost. The Climate Change swindle is real, and people are not so easily
    conned anymore.

This is the problem with the media, to get into print you now have to
say something sensible or well researched or do what Carlton has
the snide way of sensationalism press. Corrupting the data to substantiate his hypothesis.

  15. The Mainstream Press is seriously deluded and shown ignorant of its own bias and conceit; time will show the true character of Global Eco-Socialism and its desire to create a World Government under the UN or the International Socialist Umbrellas.
The Media may call names but they can’t argue against the Copenhagen Treaty’s bold black letters screaming “World Government”.
As with Barry Cassidy et al; citizens can do their own Political Commentariat themselves, like Laurie Oaks or Michelle Grattan, they are redundant in this Information Overload.

  16. deric davidson says:

Monckton, a highly intelligent man, argues his position using science and associated mathematics. The journalist morons on the left lack the mental capacity and comprehension to assess his arguments so the only recourse for these intellectually shallow fools is to play the man.
The public would be as dumb as the perpetrators of these personal attacks if they can’t see through this irrelevant and juvenile rubbish (perhaps” crap” is a better description).

  17. John Hobart says:

Typical of our looney left media in general. If you cannot argue the issue then vilify the messenger. How low can our media get? Shameful! You’ve shown you have totally lost the plot when you would ‘pillory a guy for his appearance in order disparage him,’ as Andrew Bolt quite rightly said.

  18. Mike Williamson says:

Just a clear case of a side facing defeat deciding to play the man.
Anyone who plays the man deserves to lose the game and should be penailsed for it.
