The only independent member in the Northern Territory parliament, Gerry Wood, explained on ABC radio why he thought the electorate turned on Labor: “I think there’s a range of answers. Locally I think people could see a government that had very little vision, have not done planning for the future. We’ve got 200,000 people in a fifth of the land mass of the Northern Territory and we have land prices similar to what you have in Sydney and Melbourne and a lot of that land is owned by the government and you have to ask, why is that happening?
